FAQ
About Our Rugs
Creating an Atlas Hands rug is a labor of love that takes months. Every rug is handcrafted in our family run atelier in Khenifra, by a highly trained team of weavers and washers, using only the finest quality wool. Each rug undergoes an intensive washing process that gives it a signature softness and durability. Our designs are created by the founder Ihssan Mahbar, inspired by the latest trends in the design industry, ensuring a modern yet authentic Moroccan aesthetic. The result? A rug that combines excellence, tradition, and innovation, made to transform your home with unparalleled beauty and quality.
Atlas Hands rugs are crafted from the highest quality wool, ethically sourced from local farms in Morocco. The wool is carefully selected to ensure a soft, durable texture that stands the test of time.
Our rugs are made in a small, family-led atelier in Khenifra, Morocco. We work closely with our weavers, ensuring fair pay, thoughtful working conditions, and a pace that honors the craft and the hands behind each piece.
Not exactly. Each Atlas Hands rug is woven by hand, which means subtle variations are part of the process. Slight differences in tone, texture, pile height, or dimensions may occur, and we consider these nuances an integral part of the rug’s character.
Colors may also shift gently after washing and drying, and final dimensions can vary slightly. These details reflect the human process behind each piece and ensure that no two rugs are ever the same.
Atlas Hands rugs are made exclusively from natural wool, and like all natural fiber rugs, they may shed slightly—especially in the beginning. This is completely normal and nothing to worry about! It’s simply the nature of the material and the handcrafting process. To minimize shedding, each rug undergoes an intensive washing and drying process, to remove as much loose wool as possible before shipping. Regular vacuuming during the first few weeks will help reduce shedding quickly, leaving you with a beautiful, long-lasting rug.
While a rug pad may not be an absolute necessity, it can be a good addition to make your rug more comfortable and also to protect both your floors and your rug.

Care
Atlas Hands rugs are woven to endure real life. Their longevity isn’t defined by how busy a space is, but by how well the wool is cared for over time. Dust and particles, when left in the pile, gradually weaken the fibers. When a rug is regularly cleaned and properly maintained, the wool stays strong, the structure holds, and the piece continues to age with quiet grace for decades.
When your rug arrives, we recommend unrolling it as soon as possible and letting it rest flat. Any marks from transport will naturally relax over a few days as the wool settles back into place.
To keep your rug looking its best for years, avoid using vacuums with motorized brush attachments. If possible, lower suction power and move the vacuum slowly, side to side, following the direction of the weave or tassels. This helps lift dust and dirt without stressing the fibers.
For small spills, act quickly. Blot gently with a dry cloth, then use a little warm water and mild soap to clean the area. Wool naturally resists liquids at first contact, so prompt attention keeps the fibers safe.
Over time, or if the rug experiences heavier soiling, a professional cleaning can bring it back to life. Look for a skilled cleaner familiar with handwoven wool rugs.
Yes — a little shedding is completely normal. Our rugs are made from 100% natural wool, and when you first bring a piece home, some fibers may come loose. This doesn’t mean anything is wrong, it’s simply the nature of the material and the handwoven construction.
To minimize shedding, each rug goes through a careful washing and drying process before it leaves our studio. Regular vacuuming during the first few weeks will help settle the fibers and reduce loose wool quickly, so your rug can be enjoyed for years to come.
